Wave breaking and jet formation on axisymmetric surface gravity waves

چکیده

Axisymmetric standing waves occur across a wide range of free surface flows. When these reach critical height (steepness), wave breaking and jet formation occur. For travelling gravity waves, is generally considered to limit reversible motion. In the ocean, behaviour directionally spread lies between limits purely (two dimensions) axisymmetric (three dimensions). Hence, understanding on an important step in extreme ocean. We examine example colloquially known as ‘spike wave’, created FloWave circular tank at University Edinburgh, UK. generate this spike with maximum crest amplitudes 0.15–6.0 m (0.024–0.98 when made non-dimensional by characteristic radius), occurring for greater than 1.0 (0.16 non-dimensionalised). Long-wave forcing by the breaking of random gravity waves on a beach

This paper presents new laboratory data on long-wave (surf-beat) forcing by the random breaking of shorter gravity water waves on a plane beach. The data include incident and outgoing wave amplitudes, together with shoreline oscillation amplitudes at long-wave frequencies, from which the correlation between forced long waves and short-wave groups is examined. A detailed analysis of the cross-sh...

Zero Gravity of Free-Surface Jet Flow

The problem of determining the free surface due to a jet against a vertical plate is considered. The classical problem of free streamline flow of an ideal fluid has been studied by many authors [1− 4] . The first work in this type of problem is characterized by the use of the Schwartz-Christoffel formula. The latter can treat the flows of border, which combines rectilinear paroies and a free su...

On Gravity Waves on the Surface of Tangential Discontinuity

On the basis of critical analysis of literature it is shown that the existing theory of surface gravity waves is incorrect and contradictory. Based on the new results published by the author dispersive equation for linear waves generated on the surface of tangential discontinuity between air and water was obtained. It is demonstrated that this equation is applicable only to capillary waves and ...
